Holly Pond’s Kyler Chaney takes a snap during a game against Hanceville last season.

Huntingdon College has landed itself a good one.

Holly Pond’s Kyler Chaney recently pledged his commitment to the Division III Hawks and will play football for head coach Mike Turk this fall.

“I’m really excited to continue playing football,” Chaney said. “It’s what I’ve wanted to do ever since I was a little kid. I really want to be a part of Huntingdon. They reached out constantly to see how I was doing all of the time. They showed me they wanted me, and that bought me into them.”

Chaney put together a remarkable career with the Broncos.

The two-way standout was a three-year starter at quarterback and safety for coach Mike Bates.

Chaney led Holly Pond to a pair of playoff appearances (2017-18) and was selected the Overall MVP of the All-County Football Team following a tremendous senior campaign in which he rushed for 897 yards and 13 touchdowns, passed for 784 yards and five touchdowns, and accumulated 77 tackles on defense.

“The one thing that won’t scare Kyler is competition,” Bates said. “That’s what made him the player he is — that and a whole lot of talent. When you combine his talent, his competitiveness, his attitude … he’s really a hard one to beat.”

Huntingdon garnered an 8-4 record last season and won the USA South Conference title.

Former Cullman County studs — Holly Pond’s Michael Lambert and West Point’s Kobe Smith — helped out the Hawks in a big way, and Chaney is hopeful his eventual contributions will do the same.

He will initially be worked out at wide receiver but could switch to safety.

“I’m pretty confident I can contribute,” Chaney said. “I think I’ll be able to do some good there.”
