3 county academic teams heading to national tournaments

The Cullman County School Board approved four out-of-state field trip requests during Thursday night’s meeting, including three academic teams that are heading to national championship tournaments.
West Point High School’s Scholar’s Bowl team was approved to travel to Rosemont, Illinois on April 3 for the Individual National Championship Tournament, and the Middle School team was approved to travel to Rosemont on May 7-11 for its National Championship Tournament.
Parkside School’s Math & Science Team was also approved to travel to Atlanta on April 10 for the Individual National Championship Tournament, and Good Hope Middle School sixth-graders will be traveling to Washington D.C. in May to visit the nation’s capital.
In other business, the board:
- Approved a request from Good Hope Elementary School to pay Melanie Haynes $25 an hour for before and after school tutoring as needed, paid with Title I funds.
- Approved a request from Vinemont Middle School to pay Chris Alexander $70 for keeping the clock for all middle school home basketball games, paid by Vinemont Middle School basketball.
- Approved a request from West Point Middle School to pay Hayden Voce $500 for coaching the seventh grade girls basketball team, paid by local school funds.
- Approved December 2019 financial statements.
- Approved December 2019 bills and salaries in the amount of $8,323,817.73.
- Approved a request from the Transportation Director to pay for afternoon and weekend New Substitute Bus Driver Training at their regular hourly rate – effective Feb. 1.
- Approved a request from the CNP Director to declare a capital equipment item as unusable surplus – Tennant Floor Machine.
- Approved a request from Dr. Anita Kilpatrick of the 2019-2020 Textbook Committee: Mark Moore, Fairview, Patrick McDonald, Good Hope, Leah Sapp, parent representative, Courtney Zills, Hanceville, and Casey Howell, Cold Springs.
- Approved the revised Cullman County Schools 2020-2021 School Calendar moving Fall Break one week back in October.
The Cullman County School Board will next meet at the Central Office on Thursday, March 12, with a work session beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting immediately following.
