STATE INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Cold Springs’ Canter, Cullman’s Hayes earn silver medals

Cold Springs’ Ragan Canter and Cullman’s Bailey Hayes took home silver medals at the state indoor track and field meet in Birmingham over the weekend.

Hayes broke a 30-year-old school record in the shot put with a distance of 55-9.5.

The previous mark of 53-7.5 was set by Gary Watts in 1980.

Canter, meanwhile, registered a distance of 32-1 in the shot put to claim her hardware.

Lawson Burgess notched a bronze medal for the Eagles following a third-place showing in the high jump (5-10).

Both performances were school bests.
