WEST POINT — The Lady Warriors took East Limestone’s best shot on Monday night.
In the end, though, Class 5A No. 10 West Point made just enough plays when it mattered most and held off the No. 6 Lady Indians 57-50 to advance to the Northwest Regional Tournament at Wallace State for the second straight season.

The Lady Warriors improved to 28-5 following the victory, while East Limestone finished 25-5.
“We knew it was going to be tough,” coach John Welborn said. “They had only lost four games for a reason — they’re really good. They’re competitive, they battle and 42 (Jirah Rogers) is real tough. We missed a lot of foul shots and gave them too many second chances on the offensive end. Again, they’re really good. But I’m proud of this team. They knew this was their last home game — these seven seniors did — and they didn’t want to lose.”
The Lady Indians built a 26-19 lead late in the second quarter before West Point closed out the frame on an 8-2 run to trail by just one point heading into halftime.
That momentum carried over, too, as the Lady Warriors used a 15-10 third quarter — which was highlighted by a pair of critical Molly Pendley 3-pointers — to snag a 42-38 lead heading into the final eight minutes of the contest.
“Molly stepped up big tonight,” Welborn said. “That’s what she’s been doing. That’s her role, and that’s what she does. I’m real proud of her.”
East Limestone didn’t go away, though.

The Lady Indians trailed by just two points with 2:55 left, but West Point reeled off four straight points to push it back to six and drained a handful of free throws down the stretch to finally turn away the road squad for good.
Miriam Oldacre, who made five free throws in the fourth quarter, scored a team-high 16 points.
Lexi Shadix and Pendley added 15 apiece.
Mackenzie Carter (six), Micah Oldacre (three) and Ryleigh Jones (two) also contributed.
Rogers poured in a game-high 27 points for East Limestone.
“It’s big to advance,” Welborn said. “This is win 28 tonight. These seniors have won 28, 27, 22 and 20. They’ve almost won 100 games. They have a will to win. They know when it’s on the line that they have to step up. We made just enough plays tonight to win this one.”
The Lady Warriors will play Mortimer Jordan on Saturday at 9 a.m. or noon.
