- Cullman's Hannah Hoffman drives to the basket.
Cullman’s varsity girls crushed Hartselle 55-26 on Tuesday night to secure the Class 6A, Area 14 title.
The Lady Bearcats (20-8) led 17-3 after the first quarter and 28-14 at halftime en route to earning their ninth straight victory — a win that capped a perfect 4-0 mark in regular season area play.
Anna Katherine Eastman (12) and Hannah Hoffman (11) led the Black and Gold in scoring.
Jaden Winfrey (eight), Regan Quattlebaum (seven), Ella Collum (five), Sidney Smith (four), Kinslee Borden (four), Emma Ray (two) and Alexandria Barker (two) also contributed.
Earlier this month, Cullman edged the Lady Tigers 58-57 in a double-overtime thriller.
The Lady Bearcats needed only 32 minutes this time around to take care of business — emphatically.
“I thought we were very composed, very focused on what we had to do,” coach Josh Hembree said. “Offensively, I felt like we moved the ball well and shot it well. We got some offensive rebounds and put them back in. Defensively, though, is where I felt like the game changed. I felt like we did our job defensively. We didn’t give up a lot of second-chance points. We closed out on shooters. Big for us. That’s our first area championship in a while. It’s sweet. We need to build on that.”
