The Maroon and White led by just two points midway through the third frame but closed the final three minutes of the quarter on a 13-0 spurt — punctuated by a crowd-pleasing 3-pointer from Lexi Shadix — to flip the momentum and pad their cushion heading into the last eight minutes of the contest.

Coach John Welborn’s squad didn’t let up, either, outscoring Fairview 17-12 in the fourth quarter to seal with deal.

Lexi Shadix (18) spearheaded a balanced offensive attack for No. 2 West Point.

Mackenzie Carter (17), Molly Pendley (12) and Miriam Oldacre (10) were next in line.

Payton Golden was the top scorer for the No. 3 Lady Aggies (15-9) with 24 points.

Katie Ball (six) and Daisy Manasco (five) also contributed.

The Lady Warriors will now play top-seeded Cold Springs on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The Class 2A No. 1 Lady Eagles took down West Point 75-71 earlier this season.

Coach Speak: “We quit turning the ball over (in the second half). That was the main thing we talked about at halftime. We were forcing the issue with things we didn’t have to do. Once we stopped turning the ball over, we started doing what we do. We played good defense and got out on their shooters. But again, I told the girls if we turn the ball over it’s going to be a close game. And it was. But we found a way to win, and that’s all that matters.” — John Welborn
