Two brothers who were involved in a shootout at Cullman’s Verizon store on Alabama 157 have been arrested after more than a month on the run.

James E. Harrison III, 17, of Birmingham was arrested by the Cullman Police Department on a charge of attempted murder. Because of the attempted murder charge, he is being tried as an adult, said CPD Sgt. Adam Clark.

Harrison and his younger brother, who is 16 years old, were also charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Clark said the brothers had a disagreement while at the Verizon store on Dec. 2 and shot at each other in the parking lot. Harrison received an injury to his foot by a ricochet, but no one else was injured during the shootout.

After firing 21 rounds at each other during their disagreement, the brothers fled together to New York, where they stole a car and drove to Ohio. There, Harrison was arrested while trying to break in to a gun store, while the younger brother escaped that scene and was arrested in Cullman on Jan. 7, Clark said.

“We were glad to finally get them,” he said. “They’ve been on the run for about a month.”
