County schools planning field trips

Three out-of-state field trip requests were approved during Thursday’s meeting of the Cullman County School Board.
The board approved a trip by the Holly Pond High School FBLA to Atlanta, Ga. on Feb. 28 for a sports marketing/management speaker held at the State Farm Arena, a trip by Cold Springs High School students to New York on May 5 to tour various historical sites around the city and a trip by Cold Springs Elementary students to Charlottesville, Va., and Washington, D.C. to visit the home of Thomas Jefferson and take guided tours of the capital on May 25.
In other business, the board:
- Approved Kristy Harris, Fairview Elementary teacher, as a resident in the Principal Candidate Semester Residency Program for the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year, as per the Principal Candidate Semester Residency Grant.
- Approved Robert Strane, Fairview Elementary music teacher, as a resident in the Principal Candidate Semester Residency Program for the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year, as per the Principal Candidate Semester Residency Grant.
- Approved Daniel Weaver, Parkside teacher, as a resident in the Principal Candidate Semester Residency Program for the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year, as per the Principal Candidate Semester Residency Grant.
- Approved hiring Connie Baker temporarily part-time as needed to train the new payroll accountant.
- Approved a request to pay Kathy Day $15 per game at the Varsity Basketball County Tournament on Jan. 18-25, to be paid by the Cullman County Basketball Association.
- Approved a request to pay Joey Eddy $75 for coordinator stipend, paid by A+ College Ready.
- Approved 2019-2020 Afterschool Programs and Personnel- Fairview Elementary (correction)- Kristy Boyd, $11 per hour, role changed to as needed.
- Approved a request from Good Hope Middle School to pay the following from school funds: Becky McSpadden, robotics coach- $2,500; Kellie Hyatt, robotics assistant- $500.
- Approved a request from Hanceville High School to pay Cantrell Tyson $1,500 for assistant football coach #3, paid by the Hanceville Quarterback Club.
- Approved a request from Holly Pond High School to pay Jeff Horton for gym cleanup for home games at Holly Pond, $75 per varsity home game and $100 for the Thanksgiving Tournament, paid by local school funds.
- Approved a request from Holly Pond High School to pay Jacob Russell $800 for concession set up for all middle school and high school basketball games and for working gate for all high school games, paid by local school funds.
- Approved a request from Vinemont Middle School to pay Kerry Thompson $300 for screening the middle school gym floor, paid by local school funds.
- Approved a request from Vinemont High School to pay the following coaches field maintenance and extra services before and during football season, paid by local Quarterback Club: Michael Williams- $1,600, David Stokes- $1,000, Erik Runge- $1,000, Stephen Robinson- $2,000, Cody Harris- $1,000, Ed Webb (non-faculty)- $1,000, Kevin Cogle- $200.
- Approved a request from Vinemont High School to pay Crystal Mayo $670 for working the volleyball concession stand throughout the volleyball season, paid from basketball funds.
- Approved a request from Vinemont High School to pay Todd Johnson $500 for additional Athletic Director duties.
- Approved a request from Welti School to add the following school nurses for Welti Elementary Afterschool Program effective Dec. 9 from 3:15-4:15 p.m., paid their regular hourly rate of par by Dependent Care Grant and/or local school funds: Amber Barnett, Shirley Tankersley.
- Approved a request from West Point High School to pay the following coaches for extra coaching duties, paid by the West Point Quarterback Club: Don Farley- $2,500, Bryant Farley- $500, Phillip Key- $500, Phillip Miller- $2,000, Wayne Davidson- $1,500.
- Approved October 2019 financial statements.
- Approved October 2019 bills and salaries in the amount of $10,113,748.14.
- Approved a request from Cold Springs High School to declare as surplus and dispose of a 1989 Kubota two wheel drive tractor.
