Cullman’s tenacious defense fueled the decisive stretch.

“Good defensive effort,” coach Bobby Meyer said. “Finished with a rebound. Pushed it hard in transition and got some easy transition opportunities. We were able in our offense to find some key areas that exposed their weaknesses. We executed through that moment.”

Belgreen (5-1) entered Tuesday’s matchup averaging 71.2 points per game.

“We tried to keep them squared up, keep them on one side of the floor,” Meyer said. “Not allow face-cuts or back-cuts. We did that pretty well. We didn’t allow second shots, either, until down the stretch.”

Tucker Gambrill led the Bearcats with 15 points, while Kaleb Heatherly nabbed 10. Max Gambrill (seven), Jase Goolsby (six), Jayden Sullins (five), Noah Bussman (five), Jaden Orr (four), Tucker Apel (three) and Mason Herron (two) also contributed buckets.

Cullman (4-3) will wrap up play Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Class 3A Lauderdale County.
