Halloween

Hey kids (and grown-ups with kids): If you’re looking to load up on Halloween candy tonight, it may be hard to beat the Halloween in Hanceville event — a carnival-like trick-or-treat party that Hanceville mayor Kenneth Nail modestly boasts will hand out “20,000 pieces” of candy.

Set to kick off indoors at the Hanceville Civic Center at 6 p.m., the city-sponsored affair will feature two dozen themed candy-dispensing booths, along with tons of spooky activities and games for kids.

Nail (who’s not dressing up for Halloween this year) said the city decided to put the event together after this year’s Fall Fest, typically a huge draw for locals who’ve gotten in the Halloween spirit — was canceled.

“It’s wet and cold outside, but we’re having this event indoors, so weather’s not going to be a factor,” he said. “We’ve got 20,000 pieces of candy to give away, plus fun stuff to do, and it should ease any safety concerns that anyone might have with their kids trick or treating up and down the street, where there’s traffic.”

Halloween in Hanceville is free to attend, and runs at the Hanceville Civic Center tonight from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
