A mother has been arrested in the death of her two “small children” near the Baileyton area according to Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry.

“Anytime a person would do this to children, there’s only one word, evil,” said Gentry from the scene.

The victims were two brothers, ages 9 and 3, according to Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick.

The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the deaths.

Authorities received a 911 call at approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday to a home on County Road 1718.

Deputies located the two children at the scene.

After a short search in the area involving a canine unit, the mother was located, arrested and airlifted with self-inflicted injuries to an area hospital.

CCSO reported no danger to the area and will provide further details at a later time.
