PREP SPORTS: Hanceville’s Campbell named Athlete of the Week

Zach Campbell had everything working for him last Friday night.

The freshman quarterback completed 8 of 12 passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns, notched 82 yards and two more touchdowns on six carries and secured four tackles on defense to help Hanceville ease past Curry 50-22 for its third road win this season.

Campbell provided scoring scampers of 17 and 57 yards.

He delivered touchdown passes to Brodie Malcom (7 and 57 yards) and Trevor Shadden (27 yards).

Did I mention he’s just a freshman?

Campbell is also The Times’ Athlete of the Week.

Malcom hauled in five receptions for 146 yards and three touchdowns against Curry.

His third touchdown catch was a 29-yard strike from Bo Joles.

Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Tony Serra Nissan, is open to all local athletes.

Jaylen Hughey, Cullman: Had 18 carries for 192 yards and a touchdown in a 33-16 loss to Hueytown.

% Jayden Sullins, Cullman: Had 14 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown against Hueytown.

Will Thompson, Cullman: Won the large-school individual title at the Kudzu Hills Invitational with a time of 16:15.60.

% Thompson, Nicholas Wood, Adam Mangum, Conner Lowery and Walker Huddleston, Cullman: Helped the Bearcats win the large-school title at the Kudzu Hills Invitational.

% Jennifer Aviles, Della Kelly, Bernarda Tizapa, Colette Whitney and Tess Heaton, Cullman:Helped the Lady Bearcats win the large-school title at the Kudzu Hills Invitational.

Kyler Chaney, Holly Pond: Had four touchdowns in a 45-36 loss to Danville.

Levi Boatright, Holly Pond: Had two touchdowns against Danville.

% Camilla Chambers, Holly Pond: Won the small-school individual title at the Kudzu Hills Invitational with a time of 20:03.89.

Caleb Guthery, St. Bernard: Won the small-school individual title at the Kudzu Hills Invitational with a time of 17:20.81.

% Dallin Dinkle, Vinemont: Had 21 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown in a 21-6 loss to Addison. Had a fumble recovery.
