Eric Turner of Cullman, who works as a safety specialist with the Alabama Rural Electric Association (AREA), recently earned the Certified Loss Control Professional (CLCP) designation. It requires completion of an intensive program in electric utility safety and loss control.
The CLCP program is designed to instruct participants in many areas related to electric utility industry safety. The program is offered by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in conjunction with the National Utility Training and Safety Education Association.

Earning the CLCP designation means that Turner has developed the skills needed to communicate safety issues with staff and management of the 22 rural electric cooperatives served by AREA. He’s also learned how to use tools and techniques to collect, analyze, maintain and interpret safety data and records.
He is one of only a few electric utility professionals in the country who will receive this certification this year. The program requires participants to complete a rigorous series of seminars and tests, a 30-hour OSHA course and a detailed final course project.
Turner has been with AREA for 2 ½ years. Prior to that he worked at Cullman Electric Cooperative for 17 years as a journeyman lineman. He and his wife, Rachel, have two children, BreAnna and Benjamin.
