Fairview’s Payton Golden didn’t know what to expect when she tore her ACL back in June.

The talented point guard, however, didn’t have to wait long for an answer.

Less than a month after her injury, Golden committed to coach Jessica McBrayer and Wallace State’s women’s basketball program — something the rising senior couldn’t be happier about given her unfortunate situation.

“Coach McBrayer has given me this opportunity and believes in me even after my ACL injury,” Golden said. “I am so thankful that she has made my dream come true.”

As a junior, Golden was one of the top performers for the Lady Aggies.

She also helped Fairview (19-11) reach the Class 4A Northeast Regional Tournament final, and earned All-Area and All-County honors as well.

She’s currently rehabbing her injury and is hopeful to return for the second half of the season.

Golden is thankful to everybody who has helped her along the way.

“All my coaches at Fairview have played a big role in shaping me into the player I am today,” she said. “Beginning with coach (Jyme) Jennings during middle school, coach (Mary) Hartline during junior varsity and varsity, and finally coach (Justin) Billings for continuing to push me to be my best during my last years in high school.

“I am especially thankful to my family for their support and giving up all their weekends during my summer and fall travel ball dates. My paw, who is a retired high school coach, continues to give me his coaching advice. Also, my sister, Jada, who has supported me and encourages me to be competitive on and off the court. I have big shoes to fill at Wallace State because of her.”
