Jaylen Hughey exploded for touchdown runs of 28, 11 and 74 yards, and Cullman breezed past Albertville at Oliver Woodard Stadium on Friday night, winning 31-7.

Cullman (3-2) scooted out to a 10-0 lead with 7:13 left in the first quarter, highlighted by Hughey’s 28-yard touchdown surge.

“Jaylen is a guy who has bought into the changes here and the new approach to things. He’s matured a lot and developed into a good teammate and leader. He’s made big improvements,” said first-year Cullman coach Oscar Glasscock.

With 1:03 to go before the half, the Bearcats made it 17-0 on an 11-yard touchdown strike from Max Dueland to Isaiah Jones.

Hughey’s scoring runs of 11 and 74 yards extended Cullman’s cushion to 31-0 by the end of the third quarter.

Albertville scored its lone touchdown with 5:51 remaining in the game.

Cullman has yielded only seven points over the past two weeks.

The Bearcats welcome Class 6A No. 4 Hueytown to town next week for a non-region date.

“Our competition is about to get a lot stiffer. We’ll see the No. 1 running back in the nation next week and probably the best player I’ve ever coached against and the best to walk through this stadium. That can’t be our focus, though. Our focus has to be on us continuing to improve every day. That’s the name of the game. We have to improve with every repetition, every snap, every practice and every game,” Glasscock said.

Good Hope 34, Oak Grove 25

Colton Bagwell tallied three rushing touchdowns for the second consecutive week, propelling Good Hope to another win on Friday night.

Bagwell had scoring runs of 34, 2 and 3 yards as the Raiders moved to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in Class 4A, Region 5 action.

Good Hope maintained a 14-12 edge at the half behind Bagwell’s 34-yard touchdown run and a 22-yard touchdown pass from Tanner Malin to Drew Maddox.

The Raiders built a double-digit advantage by the 7:55 mark of the fourth quarter after Bagwell accounted for a 2-yard touchdown plunge and Eli Pugh notched a 13-yard scoring run.

Good Hope, which has won 15 of 16 regular-season games, is idle next week. The Raiders host Northside on Oct. 4.

Addison 26, Sheffield 6

Weston Smith scored two of Addison’s four touchdowns on the ground, and the Bulldogs pulled away late in the second half at home on Friday night.

Addison, the defending Class 2A, Region 7 champion, rebounded from last week’s narrow loss at Red Bay with its first region win.

Smith’s 3-yard touchdown put the Bulldogs (3-2, 1-1 Region 7) on the board with 6:13 remaining in the first quarter. Addison led 6-0 and sustained that edge for a while.

With 43.7 seconds remaining the third quarter, Smith added a 1-yard scoring plunge, extending Addison’s lead to 12-0.

The Bulldogs iced it away in the final stanza, receiving touchdown runs from Christian Roberts (3 yards) and Caleb Crider (10 yards).

Addison travels to Vinemont next week for a non-region tilt.

Priceville 31, Fairview 21

Fairview dropped a Class 4A, Region 7 heartbreaker at Priceville on Friday night, ending its three-game winning streak.

Priceville orchestrated a come-from-behind triumph after trailing 21-3 with two minutes remaining in second quarter, closing the game on a 28-0 run.

Priceville snatched its first lead of the game with 8:15 remaining in the fourth. The Bulldogs led 24-21 and extended it to double digits with 3:45 remaining.

Tyler Simmons had rushing touchdowns of 10 and 12 yards in the first half. The second score handed Fairview a 14-3 advantage with 3:50 to go in the first half.

The Aggies (3-2, 2-1 Region 7) weren’t done before intermission.

Parker Martin intercepted a Priceville pass on the game’s next possession, and the Aggies cashed in the turnover on a 20-yard touchdown reception by Eli Speegle, giving Fairview a 21-3 lead.

Priceville cut it to 21-10 before the half, and the Bulldogs’ defense buckled down in the second half, shutting Fairview out the rest of the way.

Fairview is idle next week. The Aggies host region foe North Jackson on Oct. 4.

Aliceville 27, Cold Springs 19

Eighth-ranked Aliceville survived against a pesky Cold Springs squad Friday night, earning a Class 2A, Region 5 victory in a thriller.

Cold Springs (3-2, 2-1 Region 5) had a chance to tie the game with 5:34 to go after an Ayden Alexander 2-yard touchdown plunge trimmed its deficit to 21-19. The Eagles’ 2-point conversion attempt failed, however.

Cold Springs knocked on the door again on its next possession with a chance to win the game, but Aliceville intercepted the ball at the 6-yard line.

Alexander put Cold Springs on the board in the first quarter with a 5-yard touchdown run at the 7:45 mark.

Aliceville countered with its first touchdown at the 10:46 mark in the second quarter, tying the game at 7-all.

It stayed that way until the half.

Aliceville claimed a 13-7 lead with 10:23 remaining in the third, but Cold Springs tied it up on another Alexander touchdown with 2:47 left in the quarter.

Aliceville reclaimed a 21-13 lead with 10:26 left in the game.

Fultondale 30, Holly Pond 8

Fultondale scored 30 unanswered points after an early deficit against the Broncos on Friday night, remaining undefeated in Class 3A, Region 5.

Kyler Chaney gave Holly Pond (1-4, 1-2 Region 5) a brief advantage in the first quarter with a rushing touchdown. A 2-point conversion gave the Broncos an 8-0 lead with 6:55 to go.

Fultondale trimmed its deficit to 8-7 with 5:45 remaining in the first and seized a 14-8 lead early in the second quarter.

The Wildcats added another touchdown in the second quarter, earning a 20-8 cushion by halftime.

Fultondale tallied 10 more points in the second half.

Holly Pond dips out of region play next week, traveling to Danville.

Russellville 51, West Point 6

West Point fell on the road Friday night, dropping a Class 5A, Region 7 tilt to the fifth-ranked and undefeated Golden Tigers.

West Point’s lone score came with 6:06 to go in the third quarter after quarterback Will Cochran threw a 30-yard touchdown to Logan Selby.

Russellville led 7-0 after the first quarter and swelled it to 35-0 by the half.

West Point (2-3, 1-2 Region 7) is idle next week. The Warriors host top-ranked Jasper on Oct. 4.
