PREP ROUNDUP: Cold Springs holds off Southeastern 34-33; Ellis leads Fairview to victory; Hanceville shuts out J.B. Pennington; Addison, Good Hope earn wins

COLD SPRINGS — Ayden Alexander racked up four touchdowns, Cold Springs came up with a key stop late in the game, and the Eagles improved to 2-1 on the season following a 34-33 home victory over Southeastern on Friday night.
Alexander’s final rushing score of the contest put Cold Springs up 34-27 in the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs, however, found the end zone to pull to within one and set up for a 2-point attempt.
The Eagles, though, turned them away to preserve the slim lead and eventual region triumph.
“The game was on the line for our defense with a minute left to go, and they made a play,” coach Rod Elliott said. “They bailed me out tonight. Lawson (Burgess), Jordan (Lacey) and Roberto (Ayala) made the stop.”
Alexander scored on runs from 8, 10, 2 and 6 yards out.
He finished with 260 yards on 21 carries. He also caught three passes for 34 yards.
“He’s got really good vision,” Elliott said. “He’s small, but he’s strong and shifty and hard to get on the ground. He’s played well all year. Our kids did a good job blocking, and I thought Brodi (Williams) had a fantastic game, too.”
Williams tossed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Lacey to put the Eagles in front 7-0 early.
Cold Springs will travel to Sumiton Christian next week.
Addison 36, Winston County 14
Grant Rice recorded three rushing touchdowns, Christian Roberts pitched in two, and the Class 2A No. 5 Bulldogs rolled to a home triumph on Friday night.
Addison (2-1) led 30-8 at halftime in the runaway victory.
Roberts, Caleb Crider and Justin Mather all secured 2-point conversions as well.
Rice’s scores came from 20, 8 and 19 yards out.
Roberts’ touchdowns, meanwhile, were from 9 and 30 yards out.
The Bulldogs will travel to Red Bay next week for their region opener.
Fairview 62, D.A.R. 41
The Aggies kicked off region play with a bang on Friday night.
Tyvn Ellis registered six touchdown runs to help lead Fairview to its highest point total since 2016.
Ellis rushed for close to 300 yards.
Tyler Simmons also had a pair of scoring scampers in the road win.
JT White hauled in a 36-yard touchdown pass to wrap up the scoring. He also had an interception.
The matchup was tied at 35 at the end of the third quarter.
However, the Aggies reeled off four touchdowns in the final 12 minutes to seize control.
“Our goal coming out of halftime was to try to win it up front and win it with defense,” coach George Redding said. “Tyvn and Tyler — I watched those two guys sub in for each other all night and really complement each other. They’ve got different styles but the same mentality. They did great.
“This group decided this week that if we wanted something different, we had to start it now. I’m just really proud of them.”
Fairview (2-1) hosts St. John Paul II next week.
Good Hope 27, Cordova 14
The Class 4A No. 9 Raiders moved to 3-0 on the season following Friday’s road and region victory.
Drew Maddox hauled in a pair of touchdown catches (3 and 87 yards) from Tanner Malin, while the latter added a 17-yard scoring run in the second frame to give Good Hope a 21-7 halftime cushion.
Colton Bagwell capped off the scoring for the Raiders with a 1-yard run in the third quarter.
Good Hope will travel to Tanner next week for a non-region game.
Hanceville 28, J.B. Pennington 0
The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 on the season following their first shutout win since 2012.
Bo Joles (2 yards), Zach Campbell (40 yards), Brodie Malcom (27 yards) and Tai Edwards (3 yards) all racked up rushing touchdowns for Hanceville in its region opener.
Malcom corralled a pair of interceptions, while Garrett Riggs and Campbell tallied one apiece.
Brosnan Ward recovered a fumble.
“We decided to move Zach to quarterback and Bo to running back this week,” head coach Cody McCain said. “Those guys did a really good job with the zone-read stuff. Our defense just played outstanding all night.”
The Bulldogs will travel to Holly Pond next week for a county and region clash.
Midfield 44, Holly Pond 28
The Broncos fell short in their region opener against the Class 3A No. 7 Patriots on Friday night.
Kyler Chaney threw a touchdown pass to Jayden Perkins and added another score on the ground.
Levi Boatright reeled off a pair of touchdown runs in the second half.
Holly Pond (1-2) will host Hanceville next Friday.
Westbrook Christian 35, Vinemont 0
The Eagles had no answers for the Warriors on Friday night.
Westbrook Christian (3-0) built a 21-0 lead at halftime and never looked back.
Vinemont fell to 1-1 on the season following the loss.
The Eagles will host Midfield next week in their region opener.
Hamilton 24, West Point 12
The Warriors dropped their region opener against the Aggies on Friday night.
Will Cochran delivered both of West Point’s touchdowns in the road loss — a 12-yard scamper and a 33-yard throw to Kobe Bowers.
The Warriors (1-2) will head home next week for a clash against Lawrence County.
