One of Cullman County’s favorite vegetables will be celebrated this weekend when the Sweet Tater Festival returns to Smith Lake Park.
The two-day festival, now in its 23rd year, is set for Sunday and Monday, with gates open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday. A $5 admission fee will give visitors an armband they can use for entry on both days.
The Sweet Tater Festival will feature plenty of music, food, arts and crafts, and the owners of classic cars, trucks and motorcycles can show off their rides Monday in the festival’s car show. The car show will take place on Monday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a $15 registration fee for participants.
Sunday’s live music includes Rebecca Egeland kicking off the festival at 9:30 a.m., Rick Carter taking the stage at noon, the Clog Wild Cloggers dancing at 2:30 p.m. and Winston Ramble playing at 4 p.m. Sunday will also feature the always popular sweet tater relay contest at 3:30 p.m.
Monday’s festivities will include Taylor Hunnicut performing at 9:30 a.m., Chimney Branch playing at 11 a.m., the Yellow Dandies taking the stage at 12:30 p.m. and Davis Little closing out the show at 2:30 p.m.
Festival goers can also test their stomachs Monday with the sweet tater pie eating contest taking place at noon, or take a ride through the park in the golf cart parade at 2 p.m.
Cullman is not the only place to celebrate Labor Day in Cullman County, as the Fairview Lions Club will have its annual car show and parade on Monday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Randall Shedd Community Park. The parade will begin at 11 a.m., and registration for the car show is $15.
