PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Cold Springs sweeps small-school titles at Pepsi XC Challenge; Holly Pond’s Chambers, St. Bernard’s Guthery snag individual crowns

- Cold Springs shows off its hardware on Saturday.
Cold Springs brought out the brooms on Saturday, sweeping the small-school titles (Class 1A-4A) at the Pepsi XC Challenge.
Ethan Edgeworth (second), Will Grimmett (sixth), Jonathan Collett (ninth), Aaron Spurger (12th) and Seth Walker (16th) helped the Blue and Gold boys notch their third straight team title at the annual competition in Moulton with 42 points.

Fairview (88) was second followed by St. Bernard (106) in third. Holly Pond (220) finished eighth.
St. Bernard’s Caleb Guthery won the individual crown with a time of 17:31.
Fairview’s Peyton Bailey (fourth), Daniel Cook (seventh) and Keagan Hardin (15th), and Holly Pond’s Christopher Putman (19th) rounded out the local runners in the top 20.
The Lady Eagles, meanwhile, edged J.B. Pennington 79-81 in the two-mile race.
Holly Pond (126), St. Bernard (130) and Fairview (225) placed fourth, fifth and ninth, respectively.
Reagan Parris led Cold Springs with a fourth-place showing, while Ava Akridge (18th), Ciara Calvert (19th), Brooke Crider (21st) and Alyssa Jackson (27th) also contributed to the team crown.

Holly Pond’s Camilla Chambers secured a time of 12:17.20 to take home the individual title.
St. Bernard’s Maddie Kerber (eighth) and Emma Powell (17th) placed in the top 20, as did Fairview’s Angelica Antibero (20th).
