Cullman County Schools Chief School Financial Officer Ed Roberson presented the proposed budget to the board and highlighted some of the key numbers.

He said the budget projects around $82.58 million in general fund revenues and $80.86 million in general fund expenditures for the coming year, and the system can be expected to end the year with around $11.8 million in its general fund account.

“We’re not trying to build a big balance,” he said. “We want our teachers to have what they want, we want our kids to be taught and we want y’all to have good facilities to go in. We don’t want a three month supply sitting out in the bank somewhere, we want it to be used in the school system for what y’all need.”

Roberson also noted a few of the system’s projects for the coming year, including a new home economics building at Holly Pond High School, the replacement of window air conditioners in multiple schools, installation of air conditioning units in school gyms, repaving at campuses across the county, completing the Child Development Center playground and adding additional security improvements including fencing, entry systems and camera systems.

“There’s a lot of new things and exciting things going on,” he said.

The board also recognized this school year’s first winners of its monthly e5 Exceptional Service Award: Holly Pond bus driver Matt Wood and The Hutch/Fairview Quick Stop owners Josiah and Shannon Daily.

The award is given out by the board to teachers, students, volunteers or anyone on a school campus who goes above and beyond in their day-to-day actions.
