Commission approves abatement, vehicle surplus

The Cullman County Commission surplussed a number of county-owned vehicles and ratified a $600,000 tax abatement for a building project at the town of South Vinemont Tuesday at its regular meeting, which featured no major actions in a sizable, if routine meeting agenda.

Approved by the commission Tuesday:

  • A $600,000 tax abatement to the town of South Vinemont for Van Properties, LLC and Willoughby Roofing and Sheet Metal.
  • An $8,881 allocation to the Cullman County Public Library for computer upgrades.
  • An $8,332 purchase of diagnostic software for the county maintenance garage.
  • A $5,000 extra appropriation to the Cullman County Extension Office for the current fiscal year.
  • Transfer of a 2005 Ford Taurus from the Sales Tax department to Sportsman Lake Park.
  • Transfer of a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado from the Sales Tax department to the department of Parks and Recreation.
  • A purchase of a 2013 passenger bus for the Cullman Area Rural Transportation Service (CARTS).
  • Purchase of two 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs via the Alabama bid list from Donohoo Chevrolet, with the cost split between the Sales Tax department ($54,701) and the commission ($13,675).
  • Surplussed a 2015 Jeep Cherokee from the Sales Tax department for sale at govdeals.com.
  • Surplussed a 2000 GMC Sierra from Stony Lonesome OHV Park for sale at govdeals.com.
  • Surplussed a 2001 GMC Sierra from Stony Lonesome OHV Park for sale at govdeals.com.
  • Surplussed a Canon image runner and two Canon copiers for disposal from the Probate Office.
  • Approved the plat proposal for the Mallard Pointe Condominiums, located along County Road 2002.
