HANCEVILLE — A new subdivision on Hanceville’s east side has one fewer impediment, thanks to the city’s decision to upgrade a water line along an adjacent road that will allow the new residents to receive fire service.
The Hanceville City Council voted Thursday to replace the existing 2’’ water supply line along Boyd Road in east Hanceville with a 6’’ line; the minimum diameter needed to furnish adequate pressure to a fire hydrant. The council also voted to install a single fire hydrant that will service the new homes to be built during the development’s first phase.
As many as 120 garden homes are planned for the new Shadow Brook subdivision along Boyd Road, which intersects with Hopewell Road from the south, on the back side of the shopping area where McDonald’s and Warehouse Discount Groceries are located.
The council did not know the full cost of the project ahead of passing the measure, but it will rely on the city’s public works department, and not labor, to do the installation work.
In other business at its regular meeting, the council:
• Agreed to purchase a full-page advertisement in the 2019 Hanceville High School Football Program for $100.
• Set a special council meeting for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30 to review draft changes to the city’s employee handbook.
• Approved the minutes of the council’s July 11 regular meeting.
The next regular meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 8, with a 5:30 p.m. public work session immediately preceding in the council meeting room at city hall.
