Hanceville swings back into concert series Saturday with The Natchez Trace Band

Music fans won’t have to go far this weekend to enjoy an outdoor concert from one of the most durable and well-followed regional groups around, as the Hanceville Summer Concert Series rolls along with The Natchez Trace Band.

Natchez Trace, which has performed alongside nearly 30 years’ worth of country and roots-rock talent from Randy Travis to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, will take the stage at Hanceville’s Veterans Park Saturday for a Hanceville first — a live music event where alcohol will be available for sale on the concert grounds.

Current forecasts call for a marginal chance of rain Saturday, but rain or shine, organizers say the show will go on as planned. The music begins shortly after 5 p.m., when opening act Another Hero takes the stage. Then, if you love classic tunes from 1980s country to 1960s rock ‘n’ roll, Natchez Trace will keep the party going until the show ends around 11 p.m.

Hanceville Mayor Kenneth Nail said the idea for each installment in the three-concert, summer-long series, is to offer something with each show that will end up appealing to just about everyone.

“That was our plan from the beginning — to host a family-friendly event like the one we had last month with Three on a String, then a more traditional festival-like concert with Natchez Trace, and then next month we’ll have Southern Gospel with The Kingsmen and Genesis, and that show will even include a sit-down dinner thanks to our local Civitan group.

“If there’s something you don’t like at this show, by all means, stick around for the next one that’s coming up — that was the idea. That’s pretty much the approach we also plan to take next year; to just mix things up and offer something, with each show, for everybody.”

Tickets to this Saturday’s concert are $5 per adults, and parking is free. And for those who do bring the kids out, there’ll still be plenty to do, from bouncy houses to a rock climbing wall. Just be sure to leave your coolers at home: There’ll be plenty of food truck vendors on site, and all alcohol must be purchased and consumed on the premises.
