The Times earns 15 awards in APA competition

The Cullman Times brought home 15 awards for news and advertising in the Alabama Press Association competition, including a first place win for The Times annual Profile edition and a third place honor for Classic Cullman.
Times News Editor Amanda Shavers earned a First place for Best Feature Photo for her shot of a yucky reaction to pumpkin pulp during a pumpkin carving at the Agriplex and a second place for Best Headline for “Polar brrr! plunge.”
Sports Editor Jake Winfrey snagged two third place awards. One for Best Sports Coverage and one for Best Sports Photo for his image of West Point’s Makayla Brown and Hope Shedd celebrating after the Warriors 5th straight county softball title.
Editor David Palmer picked up a third place for Best Business Story for his look at how tariffs were displacing Alabama growers in soybean markets.
Reporter Tyler Hanes earned a second place honor for his photo of a broken school bus mirror following the 2018 March hail storm for the Best News Photo.
The Times advertising department earned several awards including a first place for Best Presentation of Online Advertising. Inside Ad Coordinator
Debbie Miller and her team of Amanda Tolbert and Elizabeth Williams received a first place for Best Classified Page.
Sales Manager Chasity Stewart received a second and third place for Best Classified Display Ad.
Yvonne Moore won a third place for Best Single Ad 1/2 and Under and Publisher Terry Connor and staff received a third place for the 2018 Football Preview in Best Niche Publication.
The awards were announced Saturday in Orange Beach. The Times competed against other daily newspapers across the state.
