UPDATE: SouthPoint Bank robbery suspect identified

UPDATE: Homewood Police have charged Jackie Wayne Balentine, 65, of Florence, in an attempted robbery on Monday, just before SouthPoint Bank was robbed in Gardendale.
Gardendale Police will charge Balentine with the robbery of SouthPoint Bank in Gardendale on Monday, as well as the robbery that occurred in October 2016.
Balentine was arrested in Florence after a tip directed law enforcement to him. Florence Police, Jefferson County Metro Area Crime Center, Homewood Police and Gardendale Police and the FBI assisted with the apprehension.
He is currently in the Gardendale City Jail on $600,000 bond.
Police said Balentine is also considered a suspect in another bank robbery in Mississippi.
Public records show he has previous arrests as a fugitive from justice, second-degree escape and other charges in Baldwin and Morgan counties.

According to Gardendale Police Lt. Scott Banks, the Gardendale Police have one person in custody who they believe was responsible for the robbery of SouthPoint Bank on Monday and also the robbery in October 2016.
Police will not release the suspects name until the warrants are issued for the individual.
