KIMBERLY—The Kimberly City Council met on Monday night and there were some big-ticket items on the agenda. 

First, the council approved financing on a new fire engine for the city’s dire department. Kimberly has put $300,000 down on the truck, which leaves $150,000 to be financed. The council voted in April to purchase the engine along with equipment not to exceed $30,000. 

A bid from Massey Asphalt Paving was later accepted for the paving of both Kimberly Cove and Country Haven subdivisions. Kimberly announced it was putting the project up for bid on March 25, stating that multiple subdivisions would be repaved in priority order. Young Oaks subdivision and Cherrybrook Road have also been mentioned as possible candidates for repaving. 

Massey’s quote, which includes the Kimberly Cove and Country Haven subdivisions, rang up at $286,982. Councilmember Duane Whatley said a bid was requested from Jefferson County, but a response was not provided within the requested timeframe. Kimberly also received bids from Norris Paving and Tate Contracting & Excavating. 

In other business, the council also:

▪ passed a vote to purchase a Whirlpool refrigerator for the senior center for a cost of $999.

▪ heard a noise complaint involving a residence on Stouts Road.

▪ approved the fire department’s participation in two yearly certification tests for a total of $1,470. 

▪ passed a vote to repair the back bumper of a Kimberly Police Department vehicle for $1,502.
