Gardendale 5U wins state championship

The Gardendale 5U Rockets won a Dizzy Dean state championship on Monday thanks to a 26-21 victory over the Northport Nationals at Palmer Park in Madison.
Gardendale rolled to a 7-0 mark throughout regional and state tournament play. Shortstop Myles Berry earned State Tournament MVP honors following the Rockets’ five-run victory on Monday.
Gardendale’s roster includes, Pierce Wiggins, Knox Hopper, KJ Key, Colton Campbell, Jett McCoy, Weston Glynn, Jack Salters, Keegan Ross, Myles Berry, Dawson Tolbert and Reid Javinett.
The team is led by head coach Clint Tolbert and assistants Nick Ross, Matt Javinett and David Salters.
