GOOD HOPE — Students in and around Good Hope will again have the chance to end their summers on a high note with the city’s annual Back 2 School Bash, scheduled for Aug. 1.
During Monday night’s meeting of the Good Hope City Council, the date of the event was changed from July 25 to accommodate football and cheerleading camps scheduled for that week, but the change in schedule shouldn’t mean a smaller crowd, said Mayor Jerry Bartlett.
“The only ones we lose that week are the last-minute vacationers who want to go for that last week,” he said. “I think overall, we’ll be fine.”
This year’s Back 2 School Bash, which will be at Good Hope Municipal Park from 5:30-7:30 p.m., will feature inflatable bounce houses and slip-and-slides, along with free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks.
The theme for this years bash is football, so students will be given free mini footballs and kids will also have the chance to have football-themed back-to-school pictures made at the event, City Clerk Christie Chamblee said.
She said members of the National Guard will also be at the event with a rock wall and other activities for the kids to enjoy, and free t-shirts will be given away to attendees.
Councilman Greg Brown said the event usually sees around 300-350 kids in attendance, and he expects that many to come to the bash this year as well.
“I think we’ll have a big ol’ turnout this time,” he said.
