The Cullman City Council approved a pair of special event requests during Tuesday night’s meeting, which was rescheduled due to the Memorial Day holiday.
The council approved a special event request from Louise Cole of Cullman County Bosom Buddies Foundation for a charity motorcycle ride starting from Cullman Regional on June 15 from 7 a.m. to noon
The council also approved a special event request from Reyford Parker of Outlaw DJ Service to hold a fundraiser for double lung transplant patient Savannah Wallace in front of WKUL K92.1 on 1st Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Streets on June 29 from 4-10 p.m., pending approval of the street’s merchants to close the street. If the merchants do not all approve the closing of the street, the event will be held in the building’s parking lot.
Cullman Parks and Recreation Director Nathan Anderson also reported during the meeting that the Cullman Gymnastics and Cheer Academy’s two teams both won national championships last week, and congratulated the cheerleaders and coaches on their work.
“Nobody in our area has ever won a national competition like that, to my knowledge,” he said. “It’s impressive because most of the time when you get to that level it’s private gyms you’re competing against, not public, so they do one heck of a job.”
In other business, the council:
Passed Resolution No. 2016-60 to levy ad valorem taxes.
Passed Resolution No. 2019-61 to amend the position control policy and detail to add a temporary engineer position for the Cullman Fire Department and a temporary program director at Cullman Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism.
Passed Resolution No. 2019-62 to award CEI services to TTL, Inc. for the ATRIP project on Convent Road (Larkwood Bridge).
