A statement was released Tuesday afternoon from the Cullman County Commission:

“The Cullman County Commission regretfully announces that numerous animals, many of which were fowl, rabbits, and canines, perished in a fire today on private property just off of Cullman County Road 1223.

“No estimate is available at this time as to the number of animals who lost their lives. A debt of gratitude is owed to the West Point, Vinemont, Battleground, and Falkville Volunteer Fire Departments for their valiant efforts to extinguish the fire.  Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”

The fire started on County Road 1223 near the West Point area.

Dogs, ducks, rabbits, and chickens were killed in the fire. Between 50 to 60 animals were saved.

An animal control said they believe this was a “large scale breeding operation.”

The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and Cullman County Animal Control sent investigators at the scene along County Road 1223.
