Softball Roundup: Gardendale seniors attain 165th career win; Dill swings Corner past Oakman

The Gardendale softball team (32-5-1) celebrated a senior class that has amassed an overall high school record of 165-62-3 on Tuesday night in a 9-3 victory over Hueytown. The No. 3-ranked Rockets can add to that total on Thursday night when Corner comes to town.
Gardendale’s Class of 2019 includes Kendall Stricklin, Carlee McCondichie, Savannah Pennington, Kaitlyn Clark, Jaycee Dill, Riley Phillips, Kylee Franklin and Madalyn Beach.
Clark on Tuesday struck out nine and held the Gophers to four hits in a complete seven innings. Pennington scored twice on three hits to go win an RBI, Franklin drove home three runs on as many hits and sophomore Sarah Beth Brake went 2 for 2 with an RBI.
The Corner softball team (24-11) edged by Oakman Monday night thanks to a walk-off, seventh-inning hit from first baseman Lauren Dill. That would be the Yellow Jackets’ 10th hit of the game and it secured a 7-6 victory.
For No. 8 Corner, Jaden Goodwin and Lauren Higginbotham recorded two hits apiece and ace Ivey Hill logged a complete game with five strikeouts.
The Yellow Jackets visit Gardendale Thursday.
The Mortimer Jordan softball team (26-11) lost 11-0 at Hewitt-Turssville Monday.
The Class 7A Huskies got a complete game from senior pitcher Molly Cobb, who allowed four hits and struck out 11 batters in the shutout. Hewitt-Trussville posted five runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth to end things via run-rule.
The fifth-ranked Blue Devils round out the regular season Wednesday against Leeds.
The Pinson Valley softball team (17-23) got in the win column on Tuesday night with a 10-0 mercy-rule win over Shades Valley.
Ka’Mya Hampton led the way with two hits and three RBIs while Hope Cole tossed a complete six innings with nine strikeouts. Jordan Walker and Mollie Peoples both slapped in two Pinson Valley runs and Savannah Mayes provided three hits.
The Fultondale softball team notched its sixth win of the season with an 18-3 home win over Heritage Christian Tuesday night.
The Wildcats (6-15) posted seven runs in the first, six in the second and five more in the third to enact the run-rule. Sydney Cockrell drove in three runs to go with two RBIs apiece from Madison Carlton and BreAnna Lindsey.
Fultondale ends the regular season with a doubleheader at Southeastern Thursday.
