PREP BASEBALL PLAYOFFS: Hanceville, Vinemont snag Game 3 tiebreakers, advance to 2nd round

Hanceville and Vinemont aren’t ready to go home just yet.
The Bulldogs defeated Glencoe 18-6, and the Eagles took out J.B. Pennington 8-3 in their respective Game 3 tiebreakers on Tuesday to advance to the second round of the Class 3A playoffs.

Hanceville (14-8) led 7-6 after three innings before scoring the final 11 runs of their road matchup.
Alex Campbell nabbed three hits and four RBIs, while Isaac Holmes (three RBIs), Matthew Cornelius (two RBIs), Ashton James (RBI) and Mark Dyer (RBI) tallied two hits apiece. Tate Brown (one hit and two RBIs), Zach Campbell (one hit and one RBI), Adam Cooper (one hit) and TJ Kubia (one RBI) put forth contributions as well in the offensive onslaught.
Coach Michael Chandler took a lot of positives away from the win.
“We came out swinging it, came out aggressive,” he said. “Ashton James was pitching on pure guts. Ephram (Milne) came in and closed the door for us. It was a good win.”
James allowed five hits and four unearned runs in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three batters and walked five. Milne scattered one hit, two strikeouts and two walks in 1 2/3 innings.

Hanceville will play No. 6 Phil Campbell (29-6) on Friday.
Vinemont, meanwhile, seized control early and never looked back.
Deacon Samples (two RBIs), Travis Hopper (two RBIs), Clay Rogers, Hudson Wood and Zander Noblett provided one hit apiece. Issac Smith added an RBI.
Rogers went 5 1/3 innings in the victory, scattering six hits, three earned runs and four strikeouts.
Coach Matt Collins couldn’t was proud of his team’s effort.
“After they lost the first game, they decided to come out and play some baseball,” he said. “We just competed the last two games in the series to get the wins.”
The Eagles (14-10) will travel to Westminster Christian on Friday.
