Phyllis Hain takes Ms. Senior crown

Phyllis Hain is the 2019 Ms. Senior Cullman County.

The Ms. Senior Cullman County Pageant not only recognized former Queens and selected the current one for 2019, but also paid special tribute to two special people who were heavily involved over the years.

Donna Harris, the 2018 Ms. Senior Cullman County and 2018 Ms. Senior Alabama, crowned the 2019 Ms. Senior Cullman County Phyllis Hain on April 13.

The pageant took place at Wallace State Community College in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre.

Tim Collins and Janis Simmons, both whom passed away in the previous year, were recognized for their contributions.

Collins gave the pageant media coverage and Janis Simmons actively participated as a contestant in several past competitions. Both were recognized in the front of the program on a full page saying ‘In Loving Memory of Our Friends: ‘Although you could not be here with us, we honor you with our hearts.’

Tiffany Abbott Collins, Tim’s wife, accepted the award in honor of her late husband.

‘This just means so much,” she said. “Words can’t even begin to express how much this means to me.”

Doris Patterson was also recognized in appreciation for her many years of dedicated service, devotion and commitment to the organization to the Ms. Senior Cullman County Pageant.

The theme of this year’s pageant was “Be All You can Be” and the National Anthem was sang by Miss Alabama Callie Walker.

Greeting was given by Mr. Samuel Roberts, with the My Cullman Television. Welcome was presented by the Ms. Senior Cullman County/Alabama, Donna Harris, and Miss Alabama 2018 Callie Walker, who also served as the Emcee.

All of the contestants were recognized in the pageant and given the opportunity to share their talents and Philosophies of Life while showing off their evening gowns.

Karen Knight, Phyllis Hain, Judy Moon, Faye Harris, Hazel Goodwin, Jo Ann Bullard, Catherine Downs, Tammy Strong, Mary Fortner, and Jolene Hammick all competed for the title.

Harris, the current 2018 Ms. Senior Cullman County and Ms. Senior Alabama crowned the winner Hain as the new winner.

The other winners were: 1st alt: Mary Fortner; 2nd alternate, Judy Moon; 3rd alt. Jolene Hammick; and Ms. Congeniality and People’s Choice award was Faye Harris.

A reception was held in the lobby after the ceremony giving contestants an opportunity to mingle with their friends and family, while taking a variety of photos.
