A sweep of residences named in the warrants in both Cullman and Morgan counties resulted in the recovery of more than $30,000 in cash.

A Logan man is in jail on drug-related charges following a lengthy investigation by the Hanceville Police Department.

Calvin Edmond, 23, was arrested this week on a single count of trafficking in illegal drugs and a single count of first degree possession of marijuana. Hanceville investigator Adam Hadder said police also recovered a large amount of cash and multiple weapons in connection with Edmond’s arrest.

Edmond was arrested Tuesday after law enforcement obtained search warrants for residences in both Cullman and Morgan counties. Hanceville police chief Bob Long said Edmond will face additional charges in Morgan County in connection with the case. “It was a lengthy investigation, and Adam and our officers put a lot of effort into it,” said Long.

A sweep of residences named in the warrants in both Cullman and Morgan counties resulted in the recovery of 15 pounds of marijuana, more than three dozen firearms, more than $30,000 in cash, and related paraphernalia. Hadder said most of the cash, as well as the majority of the firearms, came from Edmond’s County Road 939 residence at Logan, which Edmond was renting.

Hadder led an investigation that took Hanceville police approximately three months to complete, and said additional charges against other suspects may still be pending. A second suspect, 19 year-old Dillon Stewart of Decatur, was arrested by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and charged with first degree unlawful possession of marijuana. The Morgan County search warrants yielded approximately 12 pounds of marijuana, seven firearms, and $1,070 in cash.

Hadder said the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency seized $36,000 in cash last year, under Alabama’s civil asset forfeiture rule, in connection with an investigation into an alleged trafficking case in which Edmond was suspected at the time, but the agency was not able to make an arrest. A hearing on that asset forfeiture is pending in Cullman County.

Edmond is being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond on the trafficking charge, and a $10,000 cash bond on the possession charge.
