Cold Springs team honored by commission

The Cold Springs girls basketball team was recognized by the Cullman County Commission on Tuesday for bringing home the 2019 2A state championship in high school basketball.
The team and coach Tammy West attended the commission’s meeting for the proclamation from the commissioners and received a round of applause and thanks for their performance and earning the title.
The commission also voted to make a matching payment of more than $21,000 to the Alabama Department of Transportation for the replacement of eight CARTS buses destroyed in the 2018 hail storm, as well as five additional buses.
CARTS director Joyce Echols said the county will save $600,000 in the agreement.
“This puts us where we need to be with the buses,” Echols said.
Revenue Commissioner Barry Willingham’s request to sign an agreement with LexisNexis Risk Solutions for data research, at a cost of $350 per month, was approved by commissioners.
“This is a nationwide company that is used by attorneys, mortgage companies and financial institutions,” Willingham said. “This is for our internal use only when we were are searching for a property owner.”
Willingham said when a property owner dies the program can help identify information to find inheritors.
Commissioners also approved the Willingham to subscribe to a Cost Analysis Valuation subscription by Tax Management Association for $2,995. The program is accounting software.
The county will also enter into a Benefit Consulting Agreement with Cobbs Allen to consolidate all benefit strategic planning. The agreement is expected to save the county $10,000.
In other action:
commissioners gave certificates of recognition were awarded for employees who placed in the State Roadeo event in Eufaula. Wade Hancock won first place in the van division, while Teresa Givens was third in the bus division.
authorized the county attorney to sign the Fiscal Year 2019 FTA Certifications and Assurances.
adopted and approved federal procurement guidelines.
approved a request from Redemption Church to use the vacant lot south of the Cullman County Courthouse for a prayer gather April 29-May 2 leading up the National Day of Prayer on May 2.
proclaimed April as Fair Housing Month.
approved a plat for Phase 2 for Chelsea Estates subdivision off County Road 1332.
set the next work session of the commission for 8:30 a.m. on April 23.
