The Gardendale baseball team (14-7, 4-0) improved its Class 6A, Area 11 record to 4-0 with a two-game home sweep of Carver-Birmingham Tuesday. The Rockets put 19 hits on their visitors to bag two mercy-rule victories; the first 22-0 and the second 13-0.

Carson Cook went for three hits and as many RBIs in the opener and Clay Norris chipped in with three hits of his own. Seniors Hunter Stokes (one hit for two RBIs) and Hunter Henson (three RBIs) were also profitable at the plate.

Fellow senior Colt Belcher did his best work in the nightcap, swinging in three Gardendale runs during a 13-0 win. Sophomore William Nesmith finished with a team-high two hits while Stokes (three innings) and Andrew Valentine (two innings) joined forces for a five-inning shutout.

A six-run sixth inning led the Gardendale softball team (24-3-1) to an 11-4 road win over Sumiton Christian Tuesday. As a team, the fourth-ranked Rockets posted 13 hits, including three from center fielder Savannah Pennington, who was credited with three RBIs.

Abbie Waters, Riley Phillips and Jaycee Dill provided two hits apiece for Gardendale and Auburn signee Carlee McCondichie scored three runs. Senior Kaitlyn Clark pitched five innings to fan six batters and Haley Horton tossed the remaining two frames, allowing no runs on no hits.

The girls also stormed by Minor on Wednesday by a final of 16-0 in four innings thanks in part to a three-run blast off the bat of Dill. Kylee Franklin drove home five runs on three hits and Preslie Ross sent three runs in on two hits for Gardendale.

The Corner softball team (15-6, 4-1) needed just five innings to dispose of Class 5A, Area 11 foe Dora 18-1 Tuesday night. The Yellow Jackets took command early with three runs in the first inning and finished strong with nine runs in the fourth followed by five runs in the fifth.

Sophomore Lauren Dill slapped in three runs on two hits for the visitors. Anna Hinkle also logged three RBIs to go with two RBIs and three hits from Jaden Goodwin. Mackenzie Self struck out five batters in a complete game, one-run outing.

Corner has climbed back into the Alabama Sports Writer Association Class 5A softball poll at No. 9 this week. 

The Corner baseball team (19-10, 6-2) lost the tiebreaker advantage in an important Class 5A, Area 11 series with Jasper Wednesday thanks to a 6-5 road loss.

The third-ranked Vikings claimed the series opener 12-3 on Tuesday and earned the series advantage with a 6-5 come-from-behind victory in Game 3 Wednesday. No. 6 Corner did salvage a 7-5 road win in Game 2 Wednesday afternoon.

Gage Lisby provided a two-run go-ahead single in the sixth inning of Tuesday’s opener. His efforts broke a 4-4 tie and gave the Yellow Jackets the lead for good.

Cole Fuller and Garrett Purvis also drove in two runs apiece for Corner. Tanner Hayes earned the win in six innings of work which resulted in five runs on five hits and two strikeouts.

The Yellow Jackets were one strike away from taking the series on Wednesday night when they held a 5-4 advantage in the bottom of the seventh inning of the third game, but Jasper evened it up at 5-5 with a two-out, two-strike homer and later won it in the eighth.

The Mortimer Jordan baseball team (21-9, 4-2) dominated a three-game Class 5A, Area 11 series with Dora this week. The Blue Devils got things started with an 11-0 road win Tuesday and swept a Wednesday doubleheader, 11-3 and 15-1.

Ian Ellerbrock went for two hits and three RBIs in Game 3 following a four-RBI performance in Game 1 and Griffin Busby swung in three Mortimer Jordan runs in Game 2. 

The Blue Devils jump back into the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 5A poll this week at No. 10. 

 The Mortimer Jordan softball team (18-7, 4-1) has strung together three straight wins this week following a spring break tournament showing in Gulf Shores.

The No. 6-ranked Blue Devils went to Hueytown for an 8-1 win Monday before a 12-2 home win over Moody Tuesday and a 13-3 Area 11 victory over Dora Wednesday.

The Mortimer Jordan boys soccer team (2-3-2) beat Saint Clair County for the second time this season at home on Monday. The Blue Devils beat their visitors 8-0 and also hold a 7-0 victory over the Saints this season—both wins come in Class 4A-5A, Area 9 play.

The Mortimer Jordan girls soccer team (4-2, 3-2) also blanked Saint Clair County at home Monday, beating the Saints for the second time this season, this time by a count of 4-0. The Blue Devils beat their Class 4A-5A, Area 9 foe 10-0 on March 8.

Mortimer Jordan’s boys and girls will play their remaining five games on the road.

The Fultondale baseball team (5-11, 2-2) swept Class 3A, Area 8 foe Holy Family Catholic Wednesday night. The Wildcats won the first game by a final of 16-0 in three innings and followed up with a 20-2 lashing, also in three.

Joe Hamaker got the ball in Game 1, and delivered with a no-hitter in three complete. He struck out seven batters while his offense provided significantly. Fultondale finished with 16 runs on five hits, including two hits from Sonny Patel.

The Wildcats found 12 hits in the second contest, as Hamaker drove in three runs to go with two RBIs from Beau Anderson. Nick Weldon pitched all three frames for Fultondale, striking out seven batters and allowing three hits to score a home win.

The Fultondale girls soccer team stayed undefeated with a 3-0 Class 1A-3A, Area 5 win over Saint Bernard Preparatory School on Tuesday. The Wildcats improve to 7-0, including a 3-0 mark in area play.

Three different girls found the net for Fultondale in Wildcats Stadium: Brisa Adan, Lili Martinez and Thania Mota.

One big inning doomed the Pinson Valley baseball team (12-12) on Tuesday at Pell City.

The Indians grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, but quickly saw it disappear as the Panthers pushed four runs across in the fifth to earn a 4-2 non-area win.

Drew Rickles and Hagen Gingras drove in Pinson Valley’s only two runs, which crossed in the fourth and sixth innings. Joe Smith threw five innings for the Tribe, recording 10 first-pitch strikes and seven strikeouts.

Tuesday marked the beginning of a new era of Pinson Valley softball as the Tribe took the field at its new park for the first time.

Leeds would play spoiler as it jumped out to a 3-0 lead early on and followed through for a 9-5 road win.

For Pinson Valley, Hope Cole connected with three of the team’s nine total hits and Kylie Hicks drew a pair of walks. Jordan Walker tossed a complete game with five strikeouts.
