The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is warning the public of calls from a 319 area code claiming to be with the Social Security Administration.
The scam targets senior citizens claiming the potential victim owes back pay on social security and needs to refund the money or benefits will cease.
“We just want to try and get the word out to citizens, mainly our seniors who are targets of this crime, that the U.S. Government nor the State of Alabama will ever call you to solicit money over the phone. That’s not how it works,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry in a press release.
