Publix will host “Publix Serves Day” April 2 by participating in two community projects that will benefit Cullman County. In addition to Publix associate’s year-round service efforts and financial commitments to local charities, more than a dozen Publix associates and managers will spend the afternoon cooking and serving hamburgers, hotdogs and other items to the Adult Day Service participants and staff of CCCDD, located in Margret Jean Jones Center, a United Way partner agency.
Following lunch, Publix volunteers will install a green outdoor lending library that will be located at United Way of Cullman County. This “little library” was built by Brad Boshell, Cullman Publix Store Manager, who recently attended a Retail Operation Conference in Florida. At the conference, each store manager participated in a philanthropy project by building a Little Library.

“The Little Library will be donated to United Way and will come with $100 worth of new books as well as other books we have collected,” said Publix Store Manager, and board member, United Way of Cullman County, Brad Boshell. “At Publix, the value of being involved in our communities is one we all have in common,” said Boshell. “Locally, we are committed to finding opportunities to help Cullman County grow and thrive and in addition to the many other ways Publix gives back. We love to volunteer and serve where we live and work.”
United Way will maintain the free lending library and invites the community to participate by donating new or gently used books.
“United Way is committed to improving and supporting educational opportunities in Cullman County,” Said Becky Goff, executive director, United Way of Cullman County. “We get a lot of visitors at the Train Depot and Depot Park, this will be a great opportunity to provide books for readers of all ages and backgrounds in our community. We are very excited to partner with Publix as the steward for the Little Library.” Goff said.
