Mortimer Jordan freshman Mia Townsend runs back to the dugout after scoring a run in Kimberly. 

The Corner baseball team (15-8, 5-1) swept through a Monday doubleheader, beating Pinson Valley by a score of 10-7 before burning by Oak Grove, 8-0.

No. 6 Corner put up nine hits on the Indians, who managed five hits in the loss. Cole Fuller, Andrew Baker and Tyler McNiese connected with two hits apiece for the Yellow Jackets. Colin Daniel drew three walks for the visitors.

Brayden Rowe slapped in two runs for Corner during an 8-0 victory on Monday afternoon. Rowe finished with three hits, which was good enough to match Isaiah McCracken at the plate. Gage Lisby chipped in with two hits for the Yellow Jackets.

Daniel threw six shutout innings on the mound. He struck out five batters and delivered 12 first-pitch strikes.

On Tuesday, Piedmont scored a 4-1 victory over Corner at Jacksonville State University. The Jackets outhit Piedmont 7-3, but were only able to manage a single third-inning run, which was swung in by Lisby. Junior Bryce Waller pitched a complete seven innings for the Bulldogs to earn a win.

The Gardendale baseball team (12-7, 2-0) split a doubleheader with Oak Grove on Tuesday and fell to Hazel Green by a count of 10-1 on Wednesday. The Rockets would step away from the field for the remainder of the week, as Jefferson County Schools observed spring break.

After leading off with a 9-2 defeat on Tuesday, Gardendale rebounded with a 9-8 win over Oak Grove thanks to two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Tigers took an 8-7 lead in the top-half, but could not hold on the defensive end.

For the Rockets, Connor Williams drove home two runs on three hits. Carson Cook also delivered with three hits on the day. Hunter Hanson (five innings) and Will Nesmith (four innings) handled the majority of the pitching duties, but five Gardendale errors were taxing.

The Mortimer Jordan baseball team (18-9, 2-2) found a lot of offense and a little time off over spring break.

The Blue Devils swept a pair of twin bills on Tuesday and Wednesday, thumping John Carroll by a combined score of 31-5 on Tuesday and beating up on Shades Valley 10-7 and 22-9 on Wednesday.

Against the Cavaliers, Tripp Horton swung in six runs in two games to match Logan Duffner in that offensive category.

Griffin Busby tossed a complete five-inning shutout in the opener, fanning four batters on his way to a 16-0 victory. Ian Ellerbrock took the ball in Game 2 and provided another complete five innings for Mortimer Jordan. He struck out three batters and allowed five hits in a 15-5 win.

Ellerbrock flipped back to an offensive mindset on Wednesday morning when he put three hits and as many RBIs on Shades Valley during a 10-7 win. McCleney and Boo Prisoc (three BRIs) chapped in with three hits apiece for the visitors.

The hit parade stretched well into the afternoon, as the Blue Devils closed out the doubleheader with a 22-9 win over Shades Valley in six innings. Horton led Mortimer Jordan with three hits and four RBIs. Josh Mahand also drove in four runs in the win.

The Mortimer Jordan softball team (15-7, 3-1) traveled south and went 3-3 at the Gulf Coast Classic at Gulf Shores High School. The Blue Devils currently sit at No. 4 in the ASWA Class 5A rankings. They return to play on April 1 at Hueytown.

The Corner softball team (14-6, 3-1) also took part in the Gulf Coast Classic, finishing at 4-2 with wins over Demopolis, Vernon Hills, Stagg and Dodgeville.

The Yellow Jackets edged Dodgeville 4-3 in bracket play on Wednesday. Lauren Dill led the offense with two hits, resulting in two RBIs for Corner. Lauren Higginbotham joined Dill with two hits in the win. Anna Hinkle (three 2/3 innings) and Ivey Hill (one 1/3 innings) shared time on the rubber for Corner. Hinkle recorded four strikeouts for the home team.

Bracket play came to an end with a 3-0 loss to Wicksburg on Wednesday.

The Pinson Valley baseball team improved to 12-11 on the season with two wins over Oakman Wednesday.

The homestanding Indians first broke open a 10-0 win thanks in part to some strong innings from pitchers Joe Smith and Evan Moore. The pair held their visitors to no runs on five hits. Smith helped the cause with two RBIs.

Offense was scarce later that afternoon when Pinson Valley came back from an early deficit to beat Oakman 3-1. Drew Rickles drove home two of those runs for the home team while Barry White (four innings) and Braeden Gilkey (three innings) kept the Wildcat offense quiet.

Together, they held Oakman to four total hits.
