Smoke drifts across downtown Cullman Friday afternoon because of two fires in the region.

Smoke drifting across Cullman County is coming from a controlled burn by the U.S. Forestry Service and a large grass fire in Hanceville.

Cullman Fire Chief Brian Bradberry said the U.S. Forestry Service is conducting the controlled burn in Bankhead National Forest.

Details of the grass fire are not know at this time, but dispatchers called for additional firefighters for an “out-of-control grass fire.”
