Jeronimo Silva of Silva Enterprises appeared at Monday’s Cullman Planning Commission and announced he will build six new houses on the seven-acre lot.

Located in the center of Larkwood subdivision, the club was built 58 years ago and included 9,000 square feet for private parties, weddings, dances, recreation and included a swimming pool. There was an effort in 2006 to revive the club to its former prominence, but the plan didn’t develop. The club had not been in use in recent years.

Larkwood Club predated TP Country Club. Through the years other facilities were developed across the city that could host gatherings of various sizes.

Larkwood Club for years was under the direction of a board that made decisions on its use and had private membership.

“We could get started in another two weeks,” Silva said. “I am going to build the newer Craftsman style homes with 2,400 to 3,500 square feet.”

With the demand for new houses growing, Silva said he already has inquiries about the homes and expects they will be sold quickly.

“It’s really a good market for building homes in Cullman. They are typically sold before you can get them built,” Silva said.
