GOOD HOPE — Construction of a new pump station and sewer lines to AGCOR Steel’s new home in Good Hope can proceed after the Good Hope City Council awarded the bid for the project to Apel Machine and Supply during Monday night’s meeting.
Mayor Jerry Bartlett said Good Hope was awarded a $200,000 Community Development Block Grant for the project, which required a $40,000 match from the city, and a $12,000 grant that was recently received from the Cullman County Community Development Commission will go towards the project as well.
AGCOR, a manufacturer and retailer of metal siding and trusses, is currently building a 185,000 square-foot facility inside the Good Hope city limits, and now that the bid is approved, work on the sewer can begin as soon as Apel is able to start, he said.
“As soon as it dries up enough, they can get started,” he said.
Bartlett said the pump station will also be capable of handling more than is currently needed on the AGCOR property, which gives some room for the company to grow in the future.
“We beefed it up and did more than we had to do,” he said. “There’s enough there for whatever he [AGOCR President Zac Smith] decides to do.”
