PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lady Raiders edge Vinemont 40-39; Good Hope’s boys earn Senior Night victory

GOOD HOPE — Savanna Derrick hit a pair of free throws with less than two minutes remaining to put the Lady Raiders in front, and Good Hope’s varsity girls held off Vinemont to secure a 40-39 home victory on Thursday.
With her team down 39-38 late, Derrick’s makes at the charity stripe put the Lady Raiders ahead by one point.
Despite three missed free throws down the stretch, coach Amanda Swann’s group was able to put together some clutch defensive stops — including one as time expired — to come away with a win on Senior Night.
“My young post players came in and helped us tremendously,” Swann said.
Savanna Derrick, Rudi Derrick, Heather Tetro and Ivey Maddox accumulated seven points apiece for Good Hope.
Cayleigh Garmon and Desire’ Odachowski each notched six to round out the offensive contributions.
Vinemont received a game-high 19 points from Sadie Stanley, while Madysen Hacker pitched in nine.
% Fairview 67, West Point 54: The Lady Aggies took down the Class 5A No. 9 Lady Warriors at home on Thursday.
Daisy Manasco scored a team-high 19 points for Fairview (16-9) in the championship rematch of the Cullman County Basketball Tournament, while Morgan Lindsay (14) and Isabella McGukin (10) reached double figures as well.
West Point (23-5), which rested its starters after the first quarter, received a game-high 20 points from Molly Pendley.
Sheridan Bowers (13) and Ryleigh Jones (10) also corralled double-digit efforts.
% Locust Fork 56, Hanceville 31: The Lady Bulldogs fell to the 3A No. 9 Lady Hornets on Thursday.
Hanceville, which dropped to 12-9 following the road loss, was led offensively by Kierra Merriweather’s eight points.
Mira Gieser tossed in six.
% Holly Pond 47, Randolph 25: The Lady Broncos improved to 12-12 this season following Thursday’s road victory.
Maddi Ham secured a game-high 15 points for Holly Pond, while Elizabeth Miller contributed 13.
Varsity Boys
% Good Hope 68, Vinemont 31: The 4A No. 8 Raiders racked up a comfortable home win on Thursday.
Cole Maddox was the top scorer for Good Hope (21-5) with 22 points, while Drew Maddox and Noah Fendley compiled 11 apiece for coach Drew Adams’ squad.
“We came out extremely flat in the first half, but I give Vinemont credit for a lot of that,” Adams said. “I was really pleased with our energy and effort after halftime. We just want to continue to improve and get better.”
Teague Whatley paced Vinemont offensively with 10 points. Lucas Miller and Katch Johnson added five apiece.
% Fairview 67, West Point 63: The Aggies took down the Warriors on Joe Shults Night.
Fairview (8-14) was aided offensively by Dow Nichols (12), Austin Turner (11), Sawyer Daniel (10) and Luke Yarbrough (eight) in the home victory.
Kolton Sapp and Kobe Bowers provided 18 points apiece for West Point, which fell to 11-16.
Tyler Thompson added 12.
% Hanceville 53, Locust Fork 46: The 3A No. 7 Bulldogs used a 19-12 fourth quarter to claim a win on Thursday.
Raiden Morgan (19) and Fred Ellis (16) had the top contributions for Hanceville, which improved to 21-5 this season.
% Randolph 53, Holly Pond 42: The Broncos fell short in Thursday’s road contest.
Kyler Chaney scored 21 points to lead Holly Pond, which dropped to 12-14 this season. Jordan Allbright netted eight.
