Cullman woman dies in morning accident

A Cullman woman died Monday morning from injuries in a two-car accident near Sportsman Lake on U.S. 31.
Charlotte Nelson, 79, was pronounced dead at Cullman Regional. She was driving a Chevy Malibu when the accident occurred about 8:05 a.m. She attempting to turn into the southbound lane of U.S. 31 when the wreck occurred, Cullman Police Officer Joey Duncan said.
The driver of the other vehicle, Quintana Rainwater, 22, of Cullman, was taken to Cullman Regional for treatment. Duncan said she was driving a Ford Escape.
“We’ve talked to some witnesses and gathered some other information,” Duncan said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
Duncan is a member of the police department traffic homicide investigation team. He and other officers gathered an assortment of physical information following the accident.
The fatality was the first of 2019 in the City of Cullman. Seven fatalities were reported in 2018, all between July and December.
