January is National School Board Recognition Month, and the members of the Cullman City School Board were honored for their work for the school system during their regular meeting Tuesday afternoon.
Cullman City Schools Superintendent recognized each member of the board, while school principals presented them with a certificate to show their appreciation.
“School board members take on a difficult job and assume enormous responsibilities,” she said. “These individuals work collaboratively to set and maintain our policies that provide the framework for Cullman City Schools. As strong advocates for public education, and they provide the vision that our community desires.”
The board also presented its annual Superintendent Evaluation, and Patterson highlighted some of the areas that she has been working in over the past year.
She said she spent 2018 promoting communication and community relations, including the implementation of a weekly newsletter that is sent out through email and social media, a new smartphone app for alerts and notifications and a redesign of the district and school websites.
Patterson said she has also organized meetings with the Cullman City Council to make sure the goals of the city and its school system remain in alignment, and she is currently serving a three-year term as a board member for the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce.
Neal thanked Patterson for her work in those areas over the past year, along with all of the other duties that come as superintendent.
“We appreciate the job you do as superintendent,” he said.
