- St. Bernard’s John Rose drives to the basket as Vinemont’s Lucas Miller defends during Thursday’s game. Rose scored 20 points for the Saints.
Vinemont’s varsity girls used a solid fourth quarter to take down St. Bernard 41-33 on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles outpaced the Lady Saints 17-11 in the final stanza to escape with their third win of the season.
Sadie Stanley’s 10 points were tops for Vinemont in the road victory. Kanasta Daniel (nine), Bailey Preiss (seven), Brylie Teichmiller (six), Madysen Hacker (five) and Alexis Helton (four) also contributed.
The Lady Eagles led by as many as 11 points in the fourth, but St. Bernard trimmed its deficit down to four late in the contest.
However, baskets by Stanley and Preiss during the final minute helped Vinemont prevail.
“We were real flat after we had that lead,” coach James Brown said. “That’s something we’ve been trying to work on. There’s been a few times this season where we’ve gotten leads on teams and gotten conservative and played flat and not played with energy. Just old, bad habits we’re trying to break and overcome. Any time you can come away with a win, it’s great for our program. Any time we can play poorly and win, that’s great. But I’d rather us keep that energy level up. When our energy level is good, we’ll fly around and do some things.”
Claire Sanders (14), Emma Tafazoli (nine), Jackelyn Arteaga (four), Emma Powell (three), Claudia Fallin (two) and Macy Whaley (one) netted the points for St. Bernard.
% Holly Pond 52, Good Hope 38: The Lady Broncos took down the Lady Raiders away from home on Thursday, improving to 9-10 this season following the outcome.
