A man scheduled to stand trial for manslaughter this month led police on a high-speed chase through Cullman, ending with additional charges and no injuries.

Donald Wayne Trammell, 43, of Jones Chapel, was indicted earlier this year in the death of his  22 year-old son, Logan Trammell, on Christmas Eve in 2017. Some family members defended the incident as a case of mistaken identity; an attempt on Trammell’s part to stop what he believed was a theft on his property.

Trammell was spotted by a Cullman police officer Monday tailgating and driving erratically on U.S. 278. The officer attempted to stop Trammell, who was driving an S10 pickup truck, but the suspect accelerated to  Interstate 65 North and then to Alabama 157. From there he traveled on St. Joseph to Rosemont and then 12th Way before officers stopped him, Police Chief Kenny Culpepper said.

“We have charges against and the county we believe has warrants,” Culpepper said. “I think he was aware that we knew and he fled. Thankfully, no one was hurt during the chase.”

Police have charged Trammell with attempting to elude and reckless endangerment, while other charges may be forthcoming, Culpepper said.
