Kolton Sapp has been a rock-solid player for West Point’s varsity boys all season long.

Even more so this past week.

Sapp racked up 18 points against Holly Pond last Thursday, 21 against Lawrence County last Friday, 11 against Hartselle on Monday and 22 against Fairview on Tuesday.

He garnered 16 rebounds, five assists and four steals during that four-game stretch — he was the team’s leading scorer in three of those tilts — in addition to shooting 80 percent from the free-throw line (16 for 20) and eclipsing 1,000 career points in the matchup against the Red Devils.

For those reasons, Sapp is The Times’ Athlete of the Week.

Rylan Jones corralled 13 points against Holly Pond, 12 against Lawrence County and 13 against Hartselle.

Kobe Bowers (15 points against Fairview), Tyler Thompson (10 against Hartselle) and Will Cochran (10 against Holly Pond) also had double-digit outings for the Maroon and White this past week.

Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Mitch Smith Chevrolet, is open to all local athletes.

Nominations can be sent to jwinfrey@cullmantimes.com with the person’s name, school and statistics.
