- Good Hope's Christmas in the Park will take place after its annual parade Saturday afternoon.
Good Hope residents will have to wait an extra week for their annual Christmas celebration as a threat of rain on Saturday has pushed the event to Dec. 15.
Mayor Jerry Bartlett said the parade will begin at the entrance to the Good Hope High School football field at 2 p.m. and travel along Good Hope School Road and County Road 437 before ending at Good Hope Municipal Park, where the city will be hosting its annual Christmas in the Park.
He said the grand marshal for this year’s parade is Good Hope resident Thurman Ryan, a 92-year-old Navy veteran who has previously served as grand marshal for Birmingham’s annual Veterans Day parade.
Once the parade travels through the city and ends at Christmas in the Park, chili and hot dogs will be served to attendees, while Santa Claus will be at the park pavilion for pictures with children.
There will also be a station to make Christmas ornaments and gingerbread cookies will be available from Sunflour Bakery. Other attractions include a hay ride and a train ride that will be open for children and their parents, and the city will have snow machines on hand to get the area into a Christmas spirit.
Bartlett said the city usually sees around 250-300 people in attendance at the Christmas celebration, and the event is always a good time for children and adults alike.
“We’re looking forward to having everybody,” he said. “It’s a real good event for the youngsters.”
