A Walker County-based organization is expanding into Cullman County to bring Christmas gifts to area children.

Kids Helping Kids is collecting toys and clothing during the season to help children across the region. Last year, founder Pam Dodd reported more than 500 children received gifts, but the need has increased.

Kids Loving Kids is a nonprofit organization and is planning to be at Harmony School on Dec. 12 where students are bringing toys and clothing for distribution at an event on Dec. 15.

“We’re really excited about the effort of the students at Harmony,” Dodd said. “They heard about the program and want to share with others in our communities.”

In addition to what Harmony students have accomplished, County School Superintendent Shane Barnette said students at Fairview Elementary School have collected 500 pairs of shoes to give for families this Christmas.

“It’s very encouraging and heart warming to see our students and parents join together to help others, when some of them have needs themselves,” Barnette said. “We’re proud to see our students take this kind of concern and swing into action to help.”
