PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lady Broncos defeat Good Hope 46-38; Bearcats, Raiders, Saints also pick up victories

HOLLY POND — Holly Pond’s varsity girls came away with a 46-38 home win over Good Hope on Thursday night.

The Lady Broncos made 13 of their 17 free-throw attempts in the second half to keep the Lady Raiders out of reach.

Maddi Ham (10 points), Kara Hollis (nine), Tate Duke (eight) and Kirsten Campbell (eight) were the leading scorers for Holly Pond, which improved to 2-2 this season.

Maddie Heatherly (five), Sarah Finley (four) and Lili Harris (two) rounded out the offensive production.

“A good county win for us,” coach Andrew Kelley said. “I hope we laid a solid foundation last season and start building on it this season.

Good Hope received a game-high 12 points from Desire’ Odachowski. 

Savanna Derrick (10), Abby Neighbors (six), Rudi Derrick (five), Morgan Hammock (three) and Savanna Burney (two) also contributed buckets for the Lady Raiders.


% Winston County 69, Vinemont 41: Bailey Preiss scored a team-high 15 points in the Lady Eagles’ road loss on Thursday night.

Kanasta Daniel (eight), Sadie Stanley (six) and Brylie Teichmiller (five) also pitched in offensively.

Varsity Boys

% Good Hope 80, Holly Pond 67: Cole Maddox dropped a game-high 32 points, Noah Fendley added 24 and the Raiders secured a road victory over the Broncos on Thursday night.

Michael Lowe rounded out Good Hope’s double-digit scorers with 11 points.

Kyler Chaney led Holly Pond with 27 points. Isaac Ludwig (16) and Tyler Boatright (11) also had strong outings.


% Cullman 60, Brewer 49: Jayden Sullins produced a game-high 23 points for the Bearcats in Thursday’s home victory over the Patriots.

Cooper Beck (nine) and Noah Bussman (seven) were next in line offensively for Cullman, which had eight others score at least one point in the win.


% St. Bernard 49, West End 37: John Rose collected 14 points, Caleb Guthery netted 12 and the Saints picked up a home victory on Thursday night. 

Carson Holmes tossed in nine points for the Saints as well.


% Winston County 37, Vinemont 29: The Eagles fell short in Thursday night’s road game.

Jordan Hall and Curtis Kennedy paced Vinemont with eight points apiece. Katch Johnson added seven as well.
